Driving statistics for your car

When an insurance company wants to insure a car, the first thing they do it to check the history of that car. They see what type of people normally drive that car, what their occupation is, and how often these cars are involved in accidents. Taking all this information, insurance companies then calculate a premium that you should be paying to get your car covered. This essentially means even though you are a safe driver driving a Mazda 3, your premium would be higher as the car has a statistics of being driven by young teenagers who get into a lot of accidents. This has a big effect on why some cars have a higher premium than others.

Import or Local

Whether your car has been imported from another country or made regionally also makes a huge impact on the price of your premiums. Local or regionally made cars are easier to find parts for simply because the factories that manufacture them are closer. It also means that these cars are made with local climate and drivers in mind which makes the parts more durable to our hot climates. Imported cars on the other hand costs more, parts have to be shipped from overseas and might not last as long in some cases due to the unique tropical climate. Import cares would therefore in general cost more to insure.

Size of your engine

The size of your car’s engine, also known as its CC is the third factor that affects the price of your premium. CCs stand for cubic centimeters and it is a measure of volume. For example, 2,000 CCs means your car has a 2 Liter engine. Cars will less than 2,000 CCs will generally be cheaper to ensure than cars with more than 2,000 CC engines. This again depends on the factors above and the specific car in question.

Car Code table (for seat car code 110 and 120 only)

Car code tables are a combination of all of the 3 factors above which are combined in order to classify easily give you a quote for your insurance. Cars in category 3, 4 and 5 tend to be much cheaper in premiums, are much quicker to quote, and generally have more promotions on pricing as they are considered to be market cars.

Category 2 are still fairly common but consists of more imports and are pricerer to insure. They also take a longer time to get a quote for as the insurance will do more calculations.

Category 1 are the most expensive and hardest to get a quote for. The cars in category 1 are very exclusive cars and are hard to find spare parts for. For some of these cars, insurance companies will even go to the extend of seeing your driving skills and your previous record of owning exclusive cars. If the car is really expensive, it might even require the insurance company to re-insure the car with another company (this means that even the insurance company will take an insurance for your insurance).
